Where else but in South Devon would you find a week-long festival dedicated to crabs and all things crabby? The South Devon Crab Festival is held all over South Devon at various locations and includes events, tasting, demonstrations, crabbing competitions and a range of beach events to enjoy. There are many distinct events in South Devon that reflect its diverse and colourful identity, and of these the South Devon Crab Festival celebrates a traditional West Country industry with all the gusto and passion that we like to throw into all our festivities. From teaching people how to crab to tasting the excellent range of dishes involving crab, we love to celebrate our maritime bounty in style. Wednesday 3rd August – 2.15pm-3.45pm.

Rock Pool Rambles (South Devon AONB) Find out what lies beneath the waters of the rock pools and how the creatures and seaweeds cope with intertidal life! Adults £4, children £2. Meet at steps at end of car park, Castle Cove, Dartmouth.

When the Boats Come In..... (South Devon AONB)

Friday 5th August – 6am-8am.

You have to get up early this morning if you’re going to see the day’s catch come in! Join Rick Smith from Brixham Trawler Agents, to watch the fleet unload its cargoes of fish & auction them at the fish market on a short guided tour. Then enjoy a hot breakfast at the Fisherman’s Mission.

Meet at 6am outside the gates on New Fish Quay, Brixham Harbour.

Dittisham Regatta

Saturday 6th August

Dittisham Regatta is held on the waterfront at Dittisham usually on a Saturday in the first two weeks of August. This is a fun day for all the family and activities include sailing, rowing, tug of war, bbq, side stalls, crabbing for the children, a raft race and live music. The Ferry Boat Inn hosts that day time activities and in the evening the event moves up the hill to The Red Lion Inn. more

The Three Meerkateers

Three meerkat pups have made their debut appearance after spending their first few weeks underground at Woodlands Family Theme Park near Totnes.

Keepers at the park's zoo-farm discovered the pups when they went to feed dad Rogan and mum Gibby and heard squeaks coming from one of the tunnels. Head-keeper Elliott Hamilton, said: "The noises they make are very funny, they sound like they are laughing.

"It wasn't until mum and dad brought the pups out that we saw that there were three beautiful babies." more

Britannia Royal Naval College - Public Tours

The Tours are very popular and get booked up quickly, so to avoid disappointment please book your place through the TIC in person or by phone up to two weeks in advance. Guided tours normally take place on Wednesdays and Sundays throughout the summer season until October. There are thirty places on each tour, which must be booked through the Dartmouth Information Centre. more
