It's not too late to get away on a fabulous South Devon break this summer

With work, school, football and all the other things going on at the moment, it’s not surprising that you might not have found time to book your 2010 summer holiday. And yes the kids really do break up in just 3 weeks. But don’t worry, while we are getting booked up over the summer holidays, due to the large number of cottages in the Village, we still have some availability, take a look at what’s available right now, because before you know it, you’ll be thinking new shoes and school uniforms, the summer will be over and you’ll be kicking yourself for not having made more time to spend together as a family. availability

"Anyone for Fish & Chips by the Sea?"

RockFish Seafood & Chips opened its doors to customers on Monday 21st June.  They will be open 7 days a week from 9am to 9.30pm. They look forward to welcoming the guests of Hillfields.

Nick Bowdler a regular guest at Hillfields, who kindly supplies us with many images of his a adventures was one of the first to review the menu of the Rockfish.

The atmosphere is one of sitting in your own Beach Hut with wooden floors and pitched roof gazing out onto the wonderful Dartmouth Harbour.  Crab Mayo to start followed by superb Monkfish cooked to perfection and then finished off with the adults Knickerbocker Glory containing raspberries soaked in Vodka.

I received very attentive service in a relaxed atmosphere with wonderful food. The meal included complimentary spring or sparkling water and bread and butter. The meal was reasonably priced and would recommend it to others and hope to visit the Rock Fish when I return to Hillfields in September.  Nick!

Reaching 50

"Michael's reaches 50"

Despite having worn white socks with his sandals for years, Michael is only just about to reach the grand age of 50! We have contacted the senior discount bureau, as there are a few concerns about Michael’s driving due to his track record. Upon hearing about the time that he reversed into his mother in law’s car, or the time that he drove down the wrong side of the freeway in Florida, facing six lanes of oncoming traffic, or even on the more recent occasion when he fogot to put the handbrake on and it rolled into a brick wall, they sensibly decided to give Michael his free bus pass 10 years early.

His main presents will be a hand carved walking stick and an electronic organiser, as his balance and memory are already failing. For example, on his honeymoon he appeared dishevelled and sombre before Caroline, to meekly inform her that he had in fact lost his wedding ring whilst swimming in the sea. In the past few years, he has fallen into the Hillfield swimming pool countless times (damaging several mobile phones) and lost thousands of balls on the golf course.  Now that you are aware that Frank Spencer has nothing on Michael Edwards and have been warned to look out for him on the road, golf course and near any sizable quantity of water, take the time with us to wish him a very happy birthday!

Rebecca Edwards

Following many recommendations from guests at Hillfields, Michaels birthday treat is a day with Holly & David at "Manna from Devon" cookery school.  They will be instructed on a day of mixed Mediterranean Cooking with an emphasis on Fish but will also include breads, salads and some meat dishes.  If weather permits they will be predominantly outside and will use the wood fired oven. Finally sitting down to enjoy what they have cooked. Look out for a report in a future copy of the Newsletter.
