The Venus Company Wins Gold Blackpool Sands, Dartmouth
Congratulations to The Venus Company who operate the best Beach's in the area. England’s leading environmentally friendly beach café and shop operator and that’s official!. The South Hams based company has won the Gold Award in the Enjoy England for Excellence Awards National Sustainable Tourism Award category. Venus was one of only three sustainable tourism national finalists. The Awards organized by Visit Britain, reward the very best in tourism through a rigorous and independent judging process and act as a quality benchmark to the industry and to customers. The win tops a hat trick of major awards for Venus within twelve months.

Countdown begins to final voyage As the old Dartmouth to Kingswear Higher Ferry in Devon enters its final chapter, a new page opens on the web for its replacement vessel - www.dartmouthhigherferry.com Tony Tucker from Dartmouth Higher Ferry comments: “In a matter of weeks the old Higher Ferry will make its final journey after over 48 years in operation. We have now launched a brand new web site to give updates on the arrival of the new Higher Ferry, information on the transition to the new service, and an insight into the heritage of the crossing including historical photographs.” The New Higher Ferry is being constructed by super yacht builder Pendennis and will be towed from its yard in Falmouth to Dartmouth in early June. Tony continues: “Pendennis has done a cracking job and the Ferry is really starting to take shape. We are very excited about the new arrival, but we are also letting people know that time is running out for them to take a farewell voyage on the old Higher Ferry! The newly designed web site contains useful information on times and tariffs, but it also offers a glimpse of the new Ferry, along with a look back at the rich history of the Dartmouth to Kingswear crossing, dating back to the 1400’s.” Background information: The Higher Ferry operates between Dartmouth and Kingswear (at the northern end of the embankment adjacent to the popular Floating Bridge Inn and the renowned Dart Marina). The crossing forms part of the A379 between Torbay and Plymouth. The Ferry's hull was manufactured at the Dutch Ravestein yard on the bank of the River Waal. It was then delivered to Falmouth in 2008 for fitting-out and engine installation by super yacht builder Pendennis. |

The bar & bistro menu offers a range of rustic, delectable dishes, all cooked to perfection by our local head chef Rob Walsh, and his team. In addition they also offer a set menu, refreshed on a daily basis, which boasts a fantastic two course meal for just £9.95. Visiting Ships 2009 The 92-metre Mayan Queen a Super Yacht owned by the second richest man in Mexico berthed at Dartmouth in South Devon recently, the home town of the Royal Naval Britannia College, and is expected to stay for a few days.. Dartmouth harbour is very busy with naval vessels as well as visiting super yachts, pleasure boats, and ferries. (Sea Cloud II under full sail). As a Devon holiday destination Dartmouth is particularly colorful during the June, July and the Dartmouth Royal Regatta in late August. No trip to Dartmouth would be complete without a trip on the Paignton and Dartmouth Steam Railway or a river boat trip from Dartmouth all the way up to Totnes and back. My Favorite Cottage by Bob Stamps The Seale Apartment is an amazing retreat from the rigors of life in the 21st century. There is always a feeling of comfort and security when ever we stay in this suburb Apartment. An ideal location for a couple to use as a base for a sabbatical in South Devon not withstanding the extra bedroom which could easily accommodate another couple or a family of four. The views from both the lounge and bedroom are wonderful a great place to ponder life with a glass of red or just disappear in a good book. We would highly recommend the Seale Apartment.
