Our Junior Reporter visits Jan & Freddie’s Brasserie.

My family and I went for a meal at Jan & Freddie’s Brasserie whilst we were on holiday at Hillfield and it was absolutely amazing!  My whole family really enjoyed their meals.  Not only was the food delicious but the dining area was very smart and peaceful, Jan & Freddie and their lovely waitress were all really friendly and helpful.

For starter I had prawn and salmon fish cakes with mayonnaise and Rocket salad and for the main course I had Moules and Frites. The desserts on the menu sounded delicious but unfortunately I was too full!  My Sister who is 10 said her rare Sirloin Steak was the best she’d ever had.  Mummy enjoyed her Squid and Chorizo and Daddy loved his Duck Confit followed by Moules and Frites.  I really recommend that you go to this restaurant….Its fantastic!

Our Junior Reporter visits Living Coasts…

Living Coasts at Torquay is great fun for all the family. It is a fabulous chance to see the beautiful creatures of the coast including Macaroni penguins, (like the ones featured in ‘Surfs Up’), seals, sea and estuary birds, along with lots of fish, puffins and more. Look out for the penguin crossing and the low flying birds!

There are always hungry animals and birds needing feeding - it is great fun to watch them during the feeding sessions and learn more about the creatures in the talks by the zoo staff. (Feeding sessions take place every half hour).  With lots of activities going on for all ages, ice cream, yummy refreshments and the shop filled with toys and other exciting things to take home and enjoy, it is a great day out to remember.

Ashburton has long been known as a great place for food with farmer's markets, deli's, cafe's & restaurants, butchers, artisan bakers, fishmongers, a cookery school and some of Europe's finest food producers on our doorstep.  With so much food and drink around, the Ashburton Festival Association thought we should celebrate it and in association with the Guild of St Lawrence and in partnership with the Ashburton Cookery School; we see the launch of the Ashburton Food and Drink Festival. more

Agatha Christie Week - 11th - 18th September 2011

Most of us, in one form or another, have enjoyed Agatha Christie’s work, whether in the glory of her books and plays, which of course she wrote herself, or in some adopted form for film, TV, computer games, radio and so on.  Agatha Christie’s work has had the privilege and the benefit of being adapted, produced and directed by some of the best talents in the business and in some ways this will be a tribute to their skills.

Widecombe Fair 13th September

First held in the 1850’s, it now attracts many thousands of visitors and interest from all over the world. The famous folk song recalls the story of Uncle Tom Cobley and his friends riding to Widecombe Fair on a grey mare. Needless to say, he and his faithful nag will be there again this year! This is real Devon country fare. Something for everyone- especially children. Livestock, Sheep and Equine classes, Terrier Racing, Family Dog Show, Vintage Vehicles and Machinery, Gymkhana, Maypole Dancing, Rural Crafts, Fancy Dress, Uncle Tom Cobley Downhill Race, Bale Tossing, Tug of War and much, much more. A wide variety of Trade Stands will be on the Fairfield plus our popular Produce Show and Children’s Exhibition. Our on field caterer will be there to provide food and licensed refreshment and in the evening there’s Music and Dancing! more

Vintage Bus Day, Kingsbridge 17th September

The routes they plan to use are those formerly operated by the Great Western Railway Road Motors, the Western National Omnibus Company and other local operators such as Tally Ho! Services to Beesands, East Portlemouth, South Poole, Slapton, Salcombe, Hope Cove, Thurlestone, Bantham, Loddiswell, California Cross and East Allington are being scheduled as for the last two years. In 2010 we used mainly the routes operated at the 2008 event but with a greater variety of vehicles so that individual vehicles did fewer journeys. However the passenger demand increased by over 50% and, at times, intending passengers were disappointed. For 2011 they plan to introduce some new routes as well as increase the frequency on some of the more popular routes particularly to coastal destinations.
